Central Alabama Electric Cooperative has always placed a priority on helping members use energy wisely. The Touchstone Energy® Home is our way of promoting efficiency so current and future owners can be assured that homes are built to standards that will provide lower energy bills, year-around comfort and safety.

Both new construction and improved homes also can earn our Dual Fuel and geothermal heat pump rebates and rebates for electric water heaters.

Program details

To earn the Touchstone Energy® Home designation and qualify for these incentives, the structure must meet certain standards. First, both new and improved homes must have an electric water heater and an air-to-air, Dual Fuel or geothermal heat pump.

New homes must also incorporate seven of the features below. Improved homes must have at least five.

• R-16 wall insulation
• R-38 ceiling insulation
• R-19 floor insulation
• Attic ventilation
• Double-pane windows
• Infiltration control to prevent air leakage
• Exhaust systems in bathrooms and kitchen
• An exterior house wrap
• Heating and cooling ducts located in conditioned space
• An energy-efficient water heater
• A high-efficiency electric heat pump
